Melanie's speaking resume is both extensive and impressive.  From Keynote addresses to seminars to intimate corporate luncheons, Melanie's enthusiasm in front of an audience shows no bias.  

 

Outside of the  typical corporate realm she has been a special guest lecturer for the Business Women's Network, Bill Clinton's National and Community Service group, Americorps, e-Women Network, Notre Dame Academy, the Los Angeles Black Business Expo, National Youth Leadership Conference, California State University, LA, and was hand selected to emcee an elite event hosted by Governor Schwarzenegger-just to name a few.    Melanie prides herself in her ability to mold her presentations to fit her audiences, "Whether I am speaking in an auditorium full of 16 year olds or a conference hall filled with C-Suite executives, understanding and adapting to my audience is my passion…and addiction!"  It is Melanie's creativity and magnetism that excites and motivates her viewers.

Several years in public relations and media management in Los Angeles made her keenly aware of her audiences' sensibilities.  Melanie was the top requested speaker, 3 consecutive years, with the FIDM Los Angeles Speakers Bureau; has been the "go-to" trainer for corporations from California to Maryland due to her ability to increase morale and effectively relay information.  Her youth community development passion is expressed in her work having lectured at over 100 high schools.

Melanie takes an active interest in her community and the various industries in which she works; she is the past Vice President of the Sacramento Claims Association (recently invited as the Keynote Speaker for the Claims Conference), past Director of Marketing for the Southern Nevada Claims Association, past Director of Marketing for the Bay Area Professional Relocation Managers (BAPRM); a member of the Association of Contingency Planners and a past member of the membership committee for the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce and Ambassador with the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce. 

Melanie is the President of D&D Consult and Train and currently lives in Chesapeake, VA with her active-duty Naval Information Systems Technician husband.

Joe Porpiglia
Vice President, D&D Consult and Train; Corporate Consultant and Senior Trainer

Joe Porpiglia has more than 28 years of executive experience advising senior management of both large and medium sized corporations.  He has directed issues of strategy, organization, and operations and worked extensively on issues of competitive positioning, new business concepts, business models, growth, as well as operational and cost improvement.

 

Along with  his business savvy, Joe's charisma, humor and team-inspiring energy has earned him the respect of his employees and peers alike leading to his being honored as Employee of the Year at two consecutive companies.

 

Joe began his career with the Greenbelt Cooperative where he went from part-time sales clerk to the company Senior Vice President. Over the next 15 years, Joe has held positions as a Regional Vice President, overseeing the operations of 18 retail stores and two large distribution centers; a General Manager of Cort Furniture's largest market at that time; and the Vice President of Operations for ExecuStay-where in a single year, he oversaw the opening of 14 distribution centers throughout the country for their housewares operations.  He was promoted to Senior Vice President of Marriott ExecuStay, responsible for the direction, management and operations of their entire portfolio.

In 2005, Joe was sought out to assume the role of Chief Operating Officer of The Atchison Group.  In this capacity he was responsible for the overall running of two separate companies within The Atchison Group; National Corporate Housing and Apartment Outfitters.  In 2008 Joe decided it was time to use his experience and business knowledge to begin a new venture based around the areas he loved; teaching, mentoring and helping managers improve their own development and results.  Having passed on his passion of educating to his daughter, they cohesively combined their talents to form D&D Consulting and Training. 

Currently Joe is a corporate consultant and trainer for both PI Midlantic and D&D Consult and Train.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Joe received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology.

Joe lives in Damascus, Maryland with Lynne, his wife of 50+ years.  He has two children and two grandchildren.
